The Tazy’s recognition by the FCI

The Fédération Cynologique Internationale recognised the Kazakh Tazy on a provisional basis on 3 September 2024. The breed card retains that status as checked on 19 September 2026. Definitive recognition has not yet been granted. The country of origin is Kazakhstan and the standard number is 372.

Provisional recognition allows participation in FCI international shows. A dog may compete for the national CAC certificate under the relevant national organisation’s rules, and for Best of Breed, Best in Group and Best in Show.

Breeds recognised provisionally are not yet eligible for FCI-CACIB, FCI-CACIB-J or FCI-CACIB-V certificates. A high placing in the ring does not remove that restriction.

At FCI international racing and lure coursing events, a provisionally recognised Tazy may compete in FCI-Open if it meets the entry requirements. Such breeds cannot enter FCI-CACIL class. A valid licence for the appropriate class is required, along with the other admission conditions in the regulations.

The FCI procedure requires at least 5 generations and allows an application for definitive recognition no sooner than 10 years after provisional recognition. For the Tazy, the earliest calendar date for an application is 3 September 2034. This is calculated from its provisional recognition date; it is not a promise of recognition on that day.

An application includes evidence of the breed’s development: birth registrations and geographical spread, show participation, health and behaviour. Expert confirmation, consideration by the Scientific and Standards Commissions, and a decision by the FCI General Assembly are required. The passage of time alone does not complete this process.
